Lauri Collins Bio
As a full-time faculty member at Brookhaven College in Dallas, I have taught in the Visual Communications program since completing my BFA and MFA degrees in 1987. There have been so many technical advancements over the years, the pasteup and layout courses I taught then have given way to the Macintosh computer and Adobe software applications, such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. As the internet came into existence, I learned (X)HTML, CSS and current web standards in Internet web design and also added web design software such as Dreamweaver and Fireworks to an already long list of proficiencies. Currently, I teach both campus and online courses in web design, publication design, Adobe software applications and communication design.
I have welcomed the exciting changes over the years in the design fields and the new directions to which graphic design has evolved. What has remained constant, however, is the neccesity of process, concept development, spatial concepts and an appreciation for typography and letter forms. While technological advancements have greatly improved and enhanced production, what has remained vitally important is the communication aspect of design — whether in print or on the web. Our potential audience will be either attracted or repelled through our visual communication. The stated message will either be received or rejected by our viewers through the visual interpretation and presentation of that message.
This is communication design and this is the primary service that I offer to you and your business, service or organization. Whether it be print, graphic, or web design, artwork or photographic services, technical expertise, experience, knowledge and understanding are all included!
